Raku ceramic picture
Raku ceramic flower pictures are handmade smoke-fired tiles that are bright and happy and a great addition to any wall. The tiles are handmade by me and may vary slightly from the picture. Raku fired ceramics involves firing the glazed ceramic up to 1000 degrees centigrade and then placing the glowing ceramic with its molten glaze into pine sawdust and newspaper. Due to the heat in the ceramic, it catches fire after which I cover each piece with a metal container. This process smokes the piece and the smoke enters the crazing and crackling glaze the cooling ceramic. It is a compelling and unpredictable process!
The 300mm quality frames are made from limed, solid wood, and the glass is set slightly back into the frame. The raku ceramic flower tiles are approx 140mm square and are firmly glued to the glass.
